  Landform Design and Music Garden

  Design Studio I • Fall 2003 (School Work)

  • The project focuses on the visual and sculptual qualities of landform. The strolling garden’s overall form and individual spaces are based on one of Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 - 1943) compositions, the finale of piano concerto no.2 in c minor, op. 18. The finale alternates between a fast, light, sharp theme, followed by a slower long and flowing melody. Based on the interpretation of the music, the strolling garden is designed to follow the development of the music and reveal the spirit of the finale. The small earth mount is an interpretation of the fast and light melody. It is meant to enhance the overall sculptural effect of the landform during the winter months. It also gives enclosurement and guidance of the walk.

  The Amory Square Creek Walk

  Design Studio II • Spring 2004 (School Work)

  • The “creek-walk” is still an urban vision for the city of syracuse -- a continuous pedestrian link between neighborhoods, the “oil city” site by the inner harbor and Onondaga lake. Except for surface parking, the project site has been vacant for many years. In this project we are responsible for analysis, interpretation, programming, reconceptualizing and “recovering” this site in order to replace a “waste” land with a public amenity and make a positive impact on the immediate neighborhoods.

  East Fishkill Site Planning and Design

  Design Studio III • Fall 2004 (School Work)

  • The north parcel of the site is approached for preservation and conservation. The south parcel is approached as developable for housing and recreation. The goal of the land-use plan is to protect the ecological integrity and natural beauty of the site while developing the area. Thirty nine units of two or three story attached housing are proposed on moderate slope area (10% slope). A park and trail system are proposed for the rest of the site.

  Montpelier Winooski River Greenway

  Design Studio IV • Fall 2005 (School Work)

  • As part of the Capital District Master Plan, the Winooski River Greenway aims to bring new life to a 10-acre site, which is currently used as surface parking for state office employees. The Greenway reconnects the capital district to the river and eventually will link to the new Transit Center and to downtown. The focus of design is on the center of the Greenway, which incorporates existing site feature - the chimney and plantings and materials found in Vermont landscape, to create a distinctive civic landscape.

  New York Hudson River Park, Pier 64

  Design Studio IV • Fall 2005 (School Work)

  • The Hudson River Park is a continuous parkway between Battery Park City and 59 street to link the city with recreation resources. The site comprises Pier 64 in segment 5 of the Hudson River Park. Historically, bulkheads have been constructed several times along the riverbank with the progression of city boundary. In the upland area of the park the space is formed through a series of linear planting strips, which tells the story of the progression.
